A Denver Maternity Session – Deep Connections

About a month ago I met with Allison & Rob for their Denver maternity session & it was pretty magical. They drove up from Colorado Springs to spend an evening with me in some gorgeous evening light & my favorite river in Denver for their maternity session.

The Bear Creek greenbelt has always held a special place in my heart. It was the location of my very first professional session. (I put a 6 month old in a tutu who couldn’t really even sit up on her own on her stomach on top of a horse saddle & thought it looked cute as heck and the photos were adorably atrocious but hey we all start somewhere!) When I was young we would ride our horses there. I remember one year going through the river on horse back and it was so high that the water snuck up to our knees and thighs while on the horses. It’s a magical place with huge trees & easy spots to access the river which was perfect because water access was Allison’s main goal.

When Allison reached out to me she was very specific about wanting water included in her session & I was stoked for it. She mentioned to me how in tune she was with nature & she wanted nothing more than to be in it with her sweet baby & her husband. She just launched her new business Moonlit Tribe & just from reading her thoughts about nature & moon cycles on her site I was really inspired by her connection with the world.

As a Denver maternity photographer, I was excited to create some gorgeous images of this pregnancy for her, and even more so to photograph her connection with her husband, Rob. She had mentioned they hadn’t ever been photographed professionally together, even at their wedding so I wanted to make sure that their connection was highlighted as well. I think sometimes within the photography world it’s easy to focus on the “bump” & not so much the why. Connection is everything to me & I try my hardest to ensure that I am getting that emotive quality in my sessions.

I loved spending the evening with these two (three) (even though we got eaten by mosquitos) and I can’t wait to meet their sweet daughter when she arrives!
